HoloWild Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 28, 2026
HoloWild ("HoloWild", "we", "us") lets you photograph plants, animals and natural objects, identifies what you photographed, and turns the photo into a holo card that you can keep in a private library, record short videos with, and, if you choose, share through a public link. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Contact us at support@holowild.app.
1. Who can use HoloWild
HoloWild is intended for people aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a younger person has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
2. Information we collect
Account information. When you sign in, we receive your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple or Google, we also receive a unique account identifier from that provider and, if you allow it, your name. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email", we receive a relay address.
Photos and generated cards. The photo you take or choose for a card, and the card files we generate from it (the subject cut out of the photo, the card front and back, and depth and surface layers).
Identification results. What our AI identified in the photo: the common and scientific name, family, genus and the short descriptions printed on the back of the card.
Shooting time and place. The time the photo was taken and, if available, its location: either the location stored in the photo itself, or your device's approximate location at the moment you take the photo in the app, if you allow location access. We store the coordinates with the card and look up a place name (such as a city and district) from them.
Card details. The title and private notes that you enter.
Public sharing data. If you publish a card, the public link, its status, publish and revoke dates, and an approximate view count.
Reports. If someone reports a public card, the reason, optional details and the reporter's IP address (used only to prevent abuse).
Purchases. If you subscribe to Pro, the App Store or Google Play tells us which product you bought, the transaction identifiers and the expiry date. We never receive your payment card details.
Technical data. IP address, device and app version, and server logs needed to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service.
Videos. Videos you record in the video studio, including camera and microphone input, are created and saved on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers unless you choose to share them through another app.
We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not sell personal information, and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
3. Permissions on your device
- Camera: to photograph subjects and to show your camera in the video studio, only when you use those features.
- Location (approximate): to record roughly where you took a photo, only while you are taking it in the app. It is optional; you can refuse and still make cards.
- Microphone: to record your voice in the video studio, only while recording.
- Photos: to save videos and images you create. Choosing a photo uses the system picker, so we only receive the photo you select.
4. How we use information
- To identify the subject of your photo, cut it out and create your cards and library.
- To show when and where you took each photo, in your library and in videos you record.
- To sign you in and keep your account secure, including sending one-time sign-in codes by email.
- To publish a card when you ask us to, review published cards for policy violations, and handle reports.
- To provide Pro features and enforce plan limits.
- To operate, maintain and improve the service, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
We do not use your photos or cards to train AI models.
5. Public links
Your cards are private by default. When you publish a card, anyone with the link can view that card in a browser: its front and back, its title and the identification printed on the card. The public page never shows where or when the photo was taken, and never shows your name, email, account, original photo, private notes or other cards. You can stop sharing at any time; the link stops working immediately, and publishing again creates a new link. Copies that other people made while the card was public are outside our control.
6. Service providers
We share information only with providers that help us run HoloWild, and only what they need:
- Google (Gemini API): the photo you submit is sent to Google's Gemini AI service to identify the subject and cut it out of the photo. Google processes it under the Gemini API terms for paid services, which do not allow Google to use it to improve its products.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim): to turn the coordinates of a photo into a place name, we send the coordinates, rounded to about 1 km, to the OpenStreetMap Foundation's geocoding service. No account or photo information is sent.
- Cloud hosting providers that run our servers and store your files.
- Resend, to deliver sign-in emails.
- Cloudflare, for domain, network and email routing services.
- Apple and Google, for sign-in and in-app purchases, under their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or the public, or as part of a merger or acquisition (in which case this policy will continue to apply).
7. Data retention
We keep your account and cards while your account is active. When you delete a card, its photo, card files, identification and shooting time and place are deleted within 30 days. Photos that never became a card are deleted within 7 days. Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes and are deleted within a day. Server logs are kept for a limited period, at most 12 months, for security and troubleshooting.
8. Deleting your account and your rights
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Account, then Delete account. This revokes all public links and deletes your cards, photos, shooting places and account details. Subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google and must be cancelled there. See how to delete your account for details.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, contact support@holowild.app. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
9. International transfers and security
Our servers and service providers may be located outside your country, including in the United States. We use encryption in transit, access controls and other measures to protect your information, but no system is completely secure.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
